LWV Ventura County has invited us to attend their Initiative and Referendum program, a panel discussion on The California Initiative and Referendum Process: Ripe for Reform? featuring distinguished speakers:

    - Joe Matthews, co-author of California Crack Up: How Reform Broke the Golden State and How We Can Fix it, to address how we got here, with the longest state constitution in the nation, and what can be done;

    - Former Assemblyman Cameron Smyth (Republican, 38th Assembly district), who represented eastern Ventura County, to discuss the role of the Legislature in the initiative process: why do so many issues end up on the ballot and what can be done to perfect the proposals;

    -  Kathay Feng, Executive Director of California Common Cause, a non- profit, non-partisan citizens' lobbying organization, addressing the process of qualifying propositions for the ballot and ideas for reform.
