Angelica Shirley Carpenter is the author of Born Criminal: Matilda Joslyn Gage, Radical Feminist (South Dakota Historical Society Press, 2018). She gives PowerPoint or other talks on Matilda Joslyn Gage (1826-1898), a feminist leader, writer, conference organizer, and specialist in civil disobedience. Carpenter uses many of Gage’s own words to tell her story and sometimes works with an actress who portrays Gage. Gage changed the course of history. For decades she worked with Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, but she was more liberal than they were, fighting for equal rights not dependent on sex, race, class, or creed. She championed the rights of Native Americans. Gage lived near Syracuse (her house, now a museum, is a site on the Votes for Women Trail) but also in Dakota Territory and Chicago with her daughter, Maud.

The Luncheon needs to be prepaid. Please send your check to LWVTC by Jan 14th.
