SUMMARY:Leadership Development Workshop
DESCRIPTION:While being a “leader” is usually a position\, leadership is a practice anyone can use any place any time.  Through building relationships\, communicating clearly\, leading by example\, and celebrating the contributions of others\, any League member can work to empower voters and defend democracy through leadership in everyday life. The LWVBC invites you to join fellow members in a 2-hour leadership development workshop where we will explore paths to engagement outside of positional leadership roles.  The workshop will be facilitated by League Co-President Janet Rechtman\, who\, prior to retirement\, led leadership development workshops for the J.W. Fanning Institute of Leadership Development at University of Georgia.   We will meet on Sunday\, August 11 from 1 to 3 PM at First Baptist Church\, 850 Palmetto Ave.\, in Chico.

We have partnered with the Center for Common Ground (CFCG) to send postcards to Black women voters in Texas. Is Postcarding Effective? DESCRIPTION:We will run a voter outreach table at a National Night Out block party in Belle Haven (Menlo Park) on Tuesday\, August 6th\, taking place between Mt. Olive Church and Hamilton Park\, from 6 to 9 PM. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. Our regular Voter Service volunteers will receive an invitation\, and we welcome LWVSSMC members who are free that night to come on down\, volunteer at the booth\, and enjoy the festivities.  Please email our Director of Voter Services\, Geoff Ryder\, at covotersvc@lwvssmc.org if you can join us.
