DESCRIPTION:Please join the Los Altos-Mountain View Area LWV on Saturday\, June 8\, 2024\, at Michaels at Shoreline (2960 N. Shoreline Blvd\, Mountain View) to hear from Congresswoman Anna Eshoo\, who has represented us in Congress for over 30 years. She will share her observations on how the League can thrive\, especially amid ongoing threats to our democracy.  The San Jose Mercury News has named Congresswoman Eshoo one of Silicon Valley’s ten most powerful women. She has broken barriers by being elected to serve in leadership roles on critical Congressional committees. Eshoo has championed efforts to encourage the next generation of clean energy technology and is a leader in campaign finance reform. She helped draft parts of the Affordable Care Act.  Congresswoman Eshoo will begin her remarks at noon. A buffet lunch will be served immediately after that. The buffet lunch will include two salad choices: roast red potatoes\, steamed vegetables\, chicken breasts in marsala sauce\, salmon filets\, three cheese ravioli in marinara sauce\, and cheesecake for dessert. DESCRIPTION:Join Fixin’ SMC for the California Coalition for Sheriff Oversight (CCSO) public launch. You will have the opportunity to hear from a panel of experts on the topic of civilian oversight of the Sheriff. The panelists include Jason Wechter\, a board member of NACOLE\, John Alden\, the Sonoma County Director of IOLERO\, and Marshal Arnwine from ACLU-NorCal.CCSO comprises grassroots organizers working on Sheriff oversight in California counties and is open to all interested counties. The purpose is to share experiences – challenges and wins\, lessons learned\, best practices – and to learn from each other and build a shared database of what works. There is power in numbers. She studied Sociology at Cañada College and San Francisco State University\, obtaining her A.A. and B.A. degrees. Noelia has worked as a social worker\, foster youth advocate\, and community organizer. She was twice-elected Board Trustee of the San Mateo-Foster City School District and served as Board President during COVID-19. Noelia made history as the first Latina elected to and is currently the only woman on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors the Board. Supervisor Corzo represents District Two\, which comprises San Mateo\, Foster City\, and over half of Belmont. She lives in San Mateo with her son\, Mikey\, and her dog\, Quetzi.

By attending our annual meeting\, you can show your support\, share ideas with like minded members of our communities and learn about how you can help .  In addition\, we will elect officers\, agree on the budget priorities for the coming year’s work\, and ratify changes in our bylaws that increase our ability to raise funds to support the full range of League activities.   \n \nWhether your gift is time\, treasure\, or talent\, we hope you will join us on May 22 from 5:30-7 PM at First Baptist Church.to learn more about plans and projects going forward.  \n \nAnd if you are so inspired\, please bring a dish to share with everyone.

Register at the link below.California Leagues are leading the fight for fair and transparent redistricting. With ‘At Large’ elections being increasingly replaced by district elections\, Leagues across the state have stepped up to ensure that redistricting is being done fairly and with transparency. Our League was deeply involved in the most recent redistricting of San Mateo County Supervisor districts. Last year\, at County League Day\, both Leagues adopted redistricting as an issue for emphasis\, in part because of the lessons learned from that experience.  Please join our meeting on May 21st to hear Helen Hutchison\, a past President of the League of Women Voters of California and its current Program Director. Helen will showcase the redistricting work the League has been doing at both state and local levels. Gain insights on driving effective change in San Mateo County.
