DESCRIPTION:The League of Women Voters of Monterey Count will present a free talk titled:  TheEqual Rights Amendment – The Centennial and the Big Picture” at a live-streamed “Lunch and Learn” Meeting on Wednesday\, January 10\, 2024. \nWe will celebrate the Centennial of the ERA with this presentation by Zoe Nicholson.  It is a virtual\, live program of information about the ERA- what it says\, who wrote it and what it would do. What is the hold up? What can you do about it? Learn about the ERA history through pictures\, stories and an extensive Q and A.  \nGuest speaker is Zoe Nicholson\, an artist\, author and activist. Her life’s devotion is the advancement of women and girls. Her obsession is Miss Alice Paul and the Equal Rights Amendment. In 1982\, she joined six women at the Illinois state capital to publicly fast in support of the Equal Rights Amendment. Her memoir\, from Lune Soleil Press\, “TheHungry Heart: A Woman’s Fast for Justice\,” recounts her 37 days fasting in the torrent of the fight for the ERA. In January 2019\, she was featured on PBS’ We’ll Meet Again with Anne Curry. Zoe is featured in the film\, Still Working 9 to 5\, starring Parton\, Fonda and Tomlin. Zoe’s one woman show\, Tea with Alice and Me\, tells the story of Alice Paul\, architect of the 19th Amendment and the Equal Rights Amendment as well as Zoe’s life as an activist.  \nAll current LWVMC members will be sent a link to the Zoom meeting on January 9th. DESCRIPTION:The 2024 election season is coming up fast – beginning with the primary on March 5\, 2024\, and followed by the general election on November 5. With these imminent deadlines\, your League needs extra hands to strengthen our efforts to make sure all eligible Americans — especially first-time voters\, non-college youth\, new citizens\, communities of color\, and low-income Americans — have the opportunity to register and vote. \nIf you would like to participate in our VR activities\, the first step is to attend a brief training on the process and orientation to the materials involved.  Your League is offering two training sessions\, each in-person at the League Office\, 635 Flume Street\, Chico: \n· Tuesday\, Dec. 5\, 6:00 PM \n· Saturday\, Dec. 9\, 10:00 AM \nEach session will be about 75 minutes to 90 minutes long. \nIf you have had training before\, you may want to come for a refresher course and update on any new developments. \nPlease RSVP to let us know which session you plan to attend. \n  \nPS — As the nation’s largest and longest-standing grassroots voter registration organization\, the League of Women Voters registers hundreds of thousands of voters and hosts community voter registration drives across the country each year. The League concentrates its registration drives at locations that reach large numbers of unregistered voters\, including high schools and community colleges\, transit hubs\, and naturalization ceremonies. Each year\, the League also helps tens of thousands of Americans register online at VOTE411.org. \n
