Position:Senior Director for Program
Trudy Schafer is the Senior Director for Program of the League of Women Voters of California and works on a broad spectrum of projects both in community education and in advocacy. Her focus is on advocacy on League priorities at the state Capitol as well as on a number of ballot measure campaigns, including redistricting, money in politics, and budget reform measures. After the passage of Proposition 11 in 2008, she worked to ensure effective selection and functioning of the new Citizens Redistricting Commission. Currently, her efforts are focused on legislation to improve campaign disclosure. Ms. Schafer served as president of the Sacramento County League and on the LWVC board as legislation director before joining the League’s staff in 1992. Ms. Schafer received a B.A. from Northwestern University and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Chicago. She and her neurologist husband John are enjoying being grandparents of a nearly two-year-old and love having both of their grown children nearby in San Francisco.
