Meet our New Trudy Schafer Public Policy Fellow

public policy, California, Trudy Schafer, LWVC

Today, it is my great pleasure to announce the League of Women Voters of California’s second Trudy Schafer Public Policy Fellow, Andrew Muse-Fisher.

You may already know that Andrew is not new to the LWVC. He’s been with the League since February 2018 in various capacities, most recently as the Civic Engagement Coordinator.  Andrew was selected for this Fellowship because of his unwavering commitment to policy as a driver of change and his personal drive to make a difference.  In his work at the League, Andrew has demonstrated time and again that he has the capacity and desire to make the world a better place through advocating for a more equitable California.  The Trudy Schafer Public Policy Fellowship was created for aspiring public policy leaders just like Andrew.

Unwavering commitment, encyclopedic knowledge, calm demeanor, stalwart defender, dedicated Leaguer…irreplaceable.  These are the words used over and over again to describe Trudy Schafer.  Her enormous contributions to the League also include being described as a mentor, teacher, leader, and friend.  Trudy was committed to supporting young leaders and always wanted new committed activists to join the LWVC.

Following in Trudy’s footsteps, Andrew’s journey as the 2020/2021 Trudy Schafer Public Policy Fellow includes learning more about the wide breadth of issues the League works on.  He will work to establish himself in community organizing coalitions and take a lead role in non-partisan policy issues such as the Racial Justice Act. He will also engage in his own leadership development and formal mentorship.   Andrew will carry on Trudy’s legacy, and the work of the League in fighting for a fair and just California.  You can continue to support this Fellowship and ensure the League remains a strong voice in California’s Capitol.

“I was lucky enough to meet Trudy when I first started. I have continued to learn about her from people that knew her well. Hardly a week goes by without staff, Leaguers, or partners remembering Trudy.  She was a force in California politics. Passionate, meticulous, and knowledgeable about a vast range of policy areas. It’s a privilege to work as the new Trudy Schafer Fellow and I will try to emulate all that made her so accomplished. I am excited to continue Trudy’s fight for a more equitable California.”

– Andrew Muse-Fisher, Trudy Schafer Public Policy Fellow

The Schafer family has generously committed a $15,000 fund, where they will match all donations to support the Fellowship dollar for dollar, so please give generously towards Trudy’s legacy.  By making a gift today, you double your impact, and you help to ensure that the Trudy Schafer Public Policy Fellowship continues developing a new generation of emerging leaders, like Andrew, and honors Trudy’s 25 year legacy of leadership. Your donation today will keep Trudy’s unwavering commitment as a mentor and advocate at the League alive.

With fondness,

Stephanie
