On August 25th and August 27th, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 - 8 pm, experienced trainers will prepare viewers for civil engagement during election season. Participants will be able to register on Event Brite. This is a collaboration and partnership of the Braver Angels, NICD, and the League of Women Voters. We will provide more information as it becomes available. Together we can make a difference, but we make the best difference when we are respectful, inclusive, and open to really listen and understand all perspectives.

In December of 2016, David Blankenhorn, Bill Doherty, and David Lapp came up with an idea for an unlikely gathering: they assembled their first Red/Blue Workshop composed of 10 Trump Supporters and 11 Clinton supporters in South Lebanon, Ohio. This gathering was the birth of the Braver Angels Organization which has continued to thrive. Braver Angels has shown that we can bring people together from different parties and different backgrounds and successfully work together to find common ground. The foundation of all their activities is “patriotic-empathy.” Like the League of Women Voters, Braver Angels has a presence in every state in the US. They hold workshops on the tough issues, e.g., “Systemic Racism — What does the Data Tell Us?” The purpose of Braver Angels is to bring liberals and conservatives together at the grassroots level — not to find “centrist compromise,” but to find one another as citizens. Through workshops, debates, and campus engagement, Braver Angels helps Americans understand each other beyond stereotypes, form community alliances, and reduce the vitriol that poisons our civic culture. Isn’t that what true civility and civil discourse should really be about after all? (www.braverangels.org).
