SUMMARY:LWV of San Francisco: The Future of Independent Commissions in San Francisco
DESCRIPTION:San Francisco’s system of independent commissions is one of the strongest tools residents have to hold their government accountable — and it’s now at a critical turning point. \nThe Commission Streamlining Task Force\, created by the voter-approved Proposition E (November 2024)\, is proposing changes that could dramatically weaken public oversight and concentrate more power in the Mayor’s office. This will have real consequences for housing\, public safety\, transit\, and neighborhood services across the city. \nCome to this urgent community forum to understand what’s at stake. You’ll learn what commissions actually do\, how these recommendations could reshape who makes decisions for San Francisco\, and why this moment matters for everyone who cares about transparency\, democracy\, and the future of our city. \n(You may attend this event in person or online. The event recording will be shared with all event registrants.) \nCO-HOSTS \nLeague of Women Voters of San Francisco is a nonpartisan political nonprofit that empowers voters and defends democracy.
