Statement of Position on Abolition of the Death Penalty, as Adopted by the 2006 Convention:
The League of Women Voters of the United States supports the abolition of the death penalty.
The League’s History on the Death Penalty
At Convention 2006, delegates voted to adopt a position supporting the abolition of the death penalty. This decision was made in concurrence with a position adopted by the LWV of Illinois. Since that time, state Leagues have used the position to support initiatives to abolish the death penalty in their states.
