Concerns Regarding Poor Oversight of Fracking

Regulation of fracking (hydraulic fracturing in oil and gas production) must ensure that public health, safety and the environment are protected by disclosure and oversight. Read our letter to DOGGR, the state Division of Oil, Gas & Geothermal Resources, in response to their “discussion draft” of regulations.

The LWVC has concerns regarding the lack of rigorous oversight of the practice of fracking. Our letter supplements comments made by League representatives at DOGGR hearings and workshops held around the state regarding proposed regulatory approaches to protecting the public and environment from fracking activities.

We hope DOGGR will revise its approach to address these concerns before entering into a formal rule making process later this year.
