Project Homekey

Ask An Expert: Mike Callagy, Executive Officer of San Mateo County

Project Homekey is a statewide effort to sustain and rapidly expand housing for persons experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. The program provides state funding to local government agencies to purchase and rehabilitate properties—including hotels, motels, vacant apartment buildings and other properties—and convert them into permanent, long-term housing for the unhoused communities.

There are currently five Project Homekey sites in San Mateo County, with a proposed sixth location in Millbrae.

Mike Callagy, San Mateo County’s Executive Officer, oversees the efficient running of the County’s daily operations and carries out policies established by the Board of Supervisors. He has made ending homelessness a key priority. Mike has more than 37 years of public sector experience.
