New District Maps Submitted for Preclearance

The Citizens Redistricting Commission has submitted the new district maps for four California counties covered by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act to the U.S. Department of Justice for preclearance. You can view the document on the commission’s website.

Kings, Merced, Monterey and Yuba counties are “covered jurisdictions” under the provisions of the Voting Rights Act and must have any changes to voting reviewed by the U.S. Justice Department. Proposed voting changes must not deny or abridge the right to vote on account of race, color, or membership in a language minority group.
