The League’s Position on Sentencing Policy
Statement of Position on Sentencing Policy, as Adopted by the 2012 Convention.
The LWVUS believes alternatives to imprisonment should be explored and utilized, taking into consideration the circumstances and nature of the crime. The LWVUS opposes mandatory minimum sentences for drug offenses.
The League’s History on Sentencing Policy
At convention 2012, delegates voted to adopt a Sentencing Policy position. The position is based on the Sentencing Policy of the LWV of the District of Columbia.
