District 2 Candidate Forum on Oct. 10 The second SB City Council Candidate Forum is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10 from 6 to 8 pm at the Free Methodist Church on the Mesa at 1435 Cliff Drive. All five candidates who are running for Randy Rowse's seat (he is term-limited) will be there: Tavis Boise, Brian Campbell, Mike Jordan, Teri Jory, and Luis Esparza and will be asked their views on a number of issues of concern to voters. This Forum will also be live-streamed on Facebook @LWVSB and the video will be posted later on our website.
The film “Us & Them” will be shown on World Homeless Day. Thursday, October 10, at The Sandbox Santa Barbara, 414 Olive St. There will be food trucks and drinks at 5:30 pm. The film starts at 6:30 pm, with a panel discussion to follow. The event is hosted by Home for Good Santa Barbara and The Sandbox Santa Barbara.
Lunch & Learn with the League."Vulture Capitalists, News Geeks & Stories Told" Guest Speaker: Joe Livernols a well known local journalist. Joe will provide a synopsis of the state of local journalism, revealing how important issues about our area are reported in the current political, social and economic climate.
League members may take action on issues where we have studied the topic and have reached conclusions that allow us to take positions. The Action/Advocacy Committee meets monthly to discuss issues and recommend possible actions to the LWVDV Board. October discussion items: CCTA Tax Initiative, Schools and Communities First, Redistricting, Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. Join us, and bring issues that are important to you.
VOTER GIRL is a half-day workshop (AM or PM session) for Girl Scouts from Daisies to Ambassadors. Scouts earn Citizen Badges through participation in age-level projects on civic responsibility, voting and leadership. the League is presenting the workshop in partnership with the Girl Scouts of Northern California.
VOTER GIRL is open to all Girl Scouts. REGISTRATION OPEN THROUGH SEPT. 28. Sessions are filling up fast.

LWV North & Central San Mateo County will need many volunteers on Saturday, October 5, 2019 for our first Voter Girl event at Notre Dame High School, Belmont – would you like to help? This is a one-day event where League members will lead classroom activities for 200 Girl Scouts to earn their Civic Engagement badges.
Ryan Kegley, County Veterans Services Officer, will describe all the services offered by the Stanislaus Veterans Services Center in Modesto and answer questions from the audience.
