Dear Members of the Citizens Redistricting Commission:

 On behalf of the League of Women Voters of California, I would like to respond to the discussion of district numbering at your commission meeting yesterday (July 21). As you had requested, your technical consultant presented information about assessing deferral and the subsequent process of numbering Senate districts.

The League of Women Voters of California is pleased to support SB 14, your bill that would require a performance review of all state programs at least every ten years beginning in 2015 and the inclusion of performance-­‐based budgeting information in the Governor’s proposed budget beginning with the 2014-­‐15 fiscal year.

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission is calling on the public to participate in its next steps in drawing final Congressional, Legislative and Board of Equalization Districts.

Beginning Wednesday, July 13th, the public will be able to view the latest visualizations of proposed districts that the Commission will be considering in its meetings through an interactive site hosted on the California Statewide Database website.

preparing to publish its draft maps tomorrow, the League of Women Voters of
California praised the work of the commissioners and the public. “Californians
have engaged enthusiastically in the process of redrawing the lines,” said LWVC
President Janis R. Hirohama. “Unlike redistricting in the past, this process
has been open and transparent—a true citizen-driven process.”
